The MUCC offers tips on safely disposing of unused prescriptions. 

• Don’t flush unwanted medications down the toilet.  Despite going through a water treatment system they may eventually be discharged into an aquatic environment.
  
•  Take unwanted medications to find a hazardous waste collection program. 
  
• If a hazardous waste program is not available, put medications in with regular trash.
